On Tuesday 16 March 2021, the Directorate-General Civil Security received a "Commemorative Award" in recognition of Belgium's exceptional commitment to the organisation of the European exercises (EUModex) taking place every year in the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism (ECPM).

This award was presented this morning by the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic  to Anne Baetens, Director of the International Relations of the Department of the Directorate-General for Civil Security and National Training Coordinator. This award underlines the quality of the international action carried out by DG Civil Security and more particularly the expertise of the Directorate Civil Protection and the International Relations Department in this field. Since the creation of the EUModex 10 years ago, Belgium has among others :

  • organised 11 international exercises involving over 1600 people
  • allowed 20 international response teams to participate in these exercises and test their abilities
  • participated in 23 exercises organised by other member countries.

Anne Baetens : " It is an honour for the Belgian Civil Protection.  I also think of the hundreds of international colleagues with whom I have had the privilege to work during these 10 years of practice and who cannot be here today, but who also put their heart into their work ".
